Our History

YBCS is a non-profit organization which was officially established in 1983 by Vera and Gennadij Adrianow. The dedication and artistic talent of the founders set high standards which soon brought acclaim and recognition to the Company. Particularly noteworthy are, first, its selection by the EXPO ’86 Entertainment Commission to perform several times at the Plaza des Nations and for the opening ceremonies of Saskatchewan Day during EXPO ’86 in Vancouver, and, second, its performances at EXPO ’88 in Brisbane.  The successes have continued for over 2 decades.

Parent Quotes

Here's what parents said about YBCS after the Spring School Concert May 2008:

To begin, this was our first year at YBCS and Regina! Overall, I am very impressed with the group.

1.       The rigorous adherence to class schedules is appreciated as it is important to my weekend scheduling of activities for 2 other small children. Being able to view the class once in a while is important. The frequent communication by email is excellent, as are the ‘booklet’ explaining how things work in general and for the spring concert. Very well done! I could sit at home with this guide and make all necessary plans and decisions.

2.       The Spring Concert was superb. The costumes were colorful beyond belief. The choreography and dance routines were fascinating; a nice mix of variety. Everything went on schedule! The use of babysitters in the dressing rooms was much needed as I was able to leave my daughter in good hands at this point. The time of the concert – Sunday afternoon - is perfect for myself and family. The length of the show is just right given the number of youngsters present. I appreciated getting the voucher for my little Mouse to come sit with us – she was totally taken by the performances and after just a few dances she turned to me and said “Dad, sign me up for next year.” Her appetite was whetted.

4.       In addition to the above, I had a sense throughout that everything was in control  and this is SO IMPORTANT to a parent who must turn their child over to the group for several hours.

YBCS was a pleasant experience this year and I thank you for it.

Excellent program altogether for the R&M (preschool) class.  The concert was incredible. The choreography was way beyond anything I would've expected.  I had goosebumps during the angel dance at the end of Sunday's concert!

The company seems to be put together as logically as it is in displaying its creativity.

Thank you for this year and will be enrolling my children again next year

Sincerely,

Erin Dyer

I just want to congratulate you on doing such a great job with the concert and all the organizing and events leading up to it!  If I had any suggestions for improvement I'd make them but nothing is coming to mind.

Everything was well organized, the teaching and concert were of high quality and it was a great experience for my daughter.  You could tell the kids had a real feeling of accomplishment.

Thank you for all your work!

1.      I have always applauded and lauded YBCS for their approach to dance. I love that there is no pressure on the girls to look a certain way. I love that during the performances the young ladies are not caked in make-up and wearing outfits that even adults should not be wearing. YBCS takes itself and the art seriously and does not seek to prostitute its young ladies as other groups would seem to do. I encourage you to stick along that path. There is also more thought put into the creative process, which I appreciate.

2. Costumes, as always, were absolutely gorgeous this year!

3.      I think there is a strong commitment to excellence at YBCS and you are working very hard to seek improvement and growth for the organization. My hat's off to you!

The spring concert was amazing.  My dad said that it was worth every penny of the ticket price.  It was such a professional production, hats off to everyone involved in putting it together.
I can't think of any changes that we would like to see.  This having been our first year at YBCS, after being at  three other studios, we are absolutely delighted to have found YBCS.  I know that as long as Katherine will be dancing, we will be at home at YBCS.

I especially appreciated the way Dominique interspersed fun,
creative dance activities (such as a sound workshop with a guest speaker; and
a film; along with many opportunities for Mardi to develop her own
creative approach and put her own stamp on dance class.
The social aspect of class worked well for Mardi: she loves her
friends, whose presence in the class and the freedom Dominique
allowed them helped to keep Mardi motivated
Mardi herself loved the "Odd" portion of the more advanced modern
group (not just Iftu's hair!!, but the wacky creative bits where it
was clear that each dancer had substantially contributed to the creation
of the performance.  And it was so much fun!  Mardi would have loved to
have the latitude to create this kind of dance, but perhaps this is
also an issue of personal taste.
--Other aspects of the concert worked so well--lovely music;
gripping narrative by Elaine; beautiful costumes and dances from most groups.
Our family, especially Mardi, found the adapted dance portions
especially lovely and moving.  Thank you for including on Sunday
brief dances from the Saturday concert--lovely, lovely to see the older,
accomplished dancers.  For me, the two hours flew by.
--Board Chair Kelly Miner did a very nice job with the final
remarks--so approachable, articulate, and pleasantly professional.  This gave
YBCS a more friendly feel for me; I actually feel I could go to the Board
with any issues.

Another wonderful touch: this evaluation form.  I was mulling over
these thoughts on the year and the final concert: what a welcome
opportunity for parents to share!  Thank you.
I always appreciate the very clear and well-distributed handouts
provided, and they're always on track with what actually happens.
Job well done!
