Youth Ballet and Contemporary Dance of Saskatchewan (YBCS) is both a dance school and a touring dance company. YBCS is a non-profit organization in operation since 1983, formerly known as Youth Ballet Company of Saskatchewan. Alumni have danced with Royal Winnipeg Ballet, Ballet BC, and Winnipeg Contemporary Dancers.
The school offers non-competitive classes for all ages in Ballet, Contemporary Dance, and Jazz from September through May each year. The school also offers Royal Academy of Dance examination classes, programs for youth with no prior dance training, and a high school credit day program for serious dancers, on weekday afternoons. An annual school concert is performed the last weekend of May at the Conexus Arts Centre. We are committed to smaller class sizes for our rhythm and movement and pre-ballet students. This means more individualized instruction for the youngest students, and a family atmosphere develops between the students and the instructors. Although our classes for the older students can be larger, we are committed to limiting overcrowding and maintaining each student’s right to individualized attention.
The Summer School Intensive brings world-renowned choreographers to Regina each year.
The touring dance company performs at a variety of concerts, artistic and community events around Saskatchewan, and it hosts an annual company performance in November in Regina. Renowned Canadian and international choreographers in ballet and contemporary dance are featured in its repetoire.Located in Regina, Saskatchewan near the University of Regina, at 1106 McNiven Avenue, S4S 3X3.
